Laptop Help please....Cant use it and just got it.

Ian Abbas, in order to resolve the problem, I need to access my database and as I told you I cannot access it, so I would suggest that you please relogin after sometime. And the problem can be due to numerious causes.
Ian Liek the power, the CDROM or the DVD drive that you are using, etc.

Need to be a little more clear on what the problem is... it restarts whenever you try to install any software? Have you loaded up the bios defaults... formatted the master boot record, repartitioned and attempted a reinstall? Installing software can make the comptuer restart on purpose ya know Are you getting any sort of error messages? Is the laptop plugged in or running on AC power? Is this a brandnew Gateway Laptop? If it is.. I would take this as a bad omen of problems to come with this laptop and bite the bullet and send it back to the store you bought it from! Its not doing you any good now regardless

I second gritnugget, feelings, if you're having problems this early in the new laptop stage, return it for a new one, just my opinion.

I suspect Gateway isn't gonna help you... It's not the computer they sold. And it's not a computer they sold to you. It's been rebuilt and upgraded from surplus parts and otherwise screwed with.

I'd be getting back in touch with the guy you bought it from on EBay and get it refunded/returned/whatever. If he sold it with the NIC working, then he misrepresented it. EBay has channels for reporting this, too -- feedback. Did you check his feedback before you bid -- were there any negs?

Personally, I suspect a bad nic. You shouldn't have had to reinstall the OS because the nic wasn't detecting. That sounds like a hardware problem, not software. Either the nic was defective or perhaps had become loose during shipping. And with notebooks, you don't just install the OS... you have to install a boatload of drivers for the sound,video, cd, mouse, ... But now you've changed from XP to 98 to Linux to ....

it just turn off I dont know why.When i got it witht the os there was not a problem but now when lik eiam almost done instaLLING A operating system it just turns off.
