Hey all, need a little help, ive never bought a laptop (although I build my own desktops every 4 months or so)

when buying laptops whats the most important piece to max out?

1) screen? WXGA, or UXGA is 1280x800 okay or the higher resolution be better?
2) is it best to get the best processor available, or can you overclock laptops?
3) best to buy ram already installed? or it typically cheaper to buy it seperate?
for example dell charges about 280 fro 2gb of ddr2-533
4) 17" screen or is 15.4 best size?
5) im looking at turion x2's for price vs performance, but do the current core 2 duo destroy them like in the case of the desktop models?

thanks for any help folks can add onto, I need to decide by 11/30 as that is when my coupon codes expire

thanks

this machine will be strictly business, as I dont game. maybe some dvd watching and html work. stocks, excel, autocad etc basic stuff, and I dig music so Ill will be buying a aftermarket soundcard

I max out everything usually, but not BTO it.

1. I like 1440x900 on a 15.4" display.
2. There isn't much in the way of overclocking, you're stuck with what you get.
3. I just picked up two sticks of 1GB DDR2-667 for $70 each, so install yourself.
4. 15.4" is the best. 17" is just way too big.
5. Meroms DESTROY Turions, both in power usage and performance.

I just bought a 15.4" MacBook Pro, BTW.

thanks man I appreciate the help, so I'll go down to 512 on the memory to save some cash I think, and get the better processor

anychance you could link me to where I could buy the notebook memory for $70 each? or was that a BF deal of some sort?

so i see you that you are "in the middle" as far as resolutions go

WXGA is 1280x800 and WSXGA is 1680x1050, are the images "that" much better on the better resoltuon machines?? im use to crappy check out machines from work so please bear with me lol

im loking into mac too, but the cost if always the issue, along with software. the OS is amazing though

and while I know how important 7200 rpm drives are in desktops, are they as neccessary in notebooks? or should I get the slower (4200-5400 rpms) but larger drives (200gb)?
