Yep - they work very well. I just used one last week to reformat and fix up a couple of old laptop HDDs as external data drives. It places a 40-pin connector on the 2.5" HDD, and then has a standard 4-pin Molex power plug. It's a no brainer.

Ok I got that adapter, but it doesnt fit up to the laptop HDD i have, i think its an older hdd its an IBM drive out of a Dell Latitude XPi, the connector on the hdd is shaped like a paralell connector only smaller, almost like a miniture old-school printer cable hookup, anyone know what kind of connection this is and is there a way to adapt it to the newer style HDD hookups?

Did you take the HDD out of the shell? All 2.5" drives are 44 pin as far as I can remember, and I've been using them for a long time. The plastic or metal cover needs to come off.

Dude!, You have to take that off. It's an adaptor that goes between the notebook HDD and the computer. It comes off (gently please, you don't want to bend or break the little pins underneath) and exposes the 40 pins underneath it, then your new laptop/desktop adaptor will fit right on!
