Hi there,

I've dismantled my busted laptop and removed a FUJITSU MHN2200AT HDD, I googled it and found this link:
http://www.baber.com/drives/internal_ha...es/laptops/fujitsu_mhn2200at_specs.htm

However, I count 47 pins on it and I thought laptop HDDs had 44 pins which makes me wonder if a standard Laptop to desktop IDE convertor would work. In fact ideally a laptop HDD to USB dock would be even better. Its from a Packard Bell and worried that they may have somehow customised it outside normal spec (unlikely ?).

Anyways, if anyone could give me some information about if a standard convertor (say like this : http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=44932&doy=6m8&C=SEO&U=strat15 would work, that'd be great :)

Thanks in advance

Well, your last link doesn't connect to anything useful. However - a very simple adapter is shown here:

HDD

This adapts a 2.5" laptop drive to a standard IDE connector (40-pin.)

It works - I use it all the time.

The laptop drive's pins include power. The adapter separates power from data - and power is provided via the standard 4-pin Molex plug.

Sorry, I fixed the link. It was to a 2.5inch HDD enclosure to connect to a desktop USB. I'm hoping the Fujitsu will connect into it, and through the usb without trouble. Do you or anyone else have any experience with an adapter like this?, would it be suitable for me?

Thanks again for the advice.

Do you just want an adapter for quick use or a more permanent enclosure?

I bought a Bytec USB adapter that is supposed to work for both 2.5" & 3.5" IDE, but that never quite worked right for me, I don't remember why honestly.

I ended up buying a Vantec Nexstar 2.5" enclosure. Stylish metal design, high quality components, worked great for my needs.
