laptop hdd and 2.5 to 3.5 problems

I'm using a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter on a travelstar 20gn 6gb hard drive. But my PC is not recognizing the hdd.

I've confirmed the pinouts and and power but can't find anything wrong.

The hdd sounds like it's spinning up but it's hard to tell.

any ideas on what oculd be wrong?

thanks,
Pigseye

Make sure the HDD is on it's own IDE channel. With no jumpers they are configured to master. Second, try the HDD in different positions, let the HDD dangle from the adapter, or plug it in and then flip it so the HDD is resting on the IDE cable. Those adapters tend to get loose over time and the HDD's have a hard time making the connection. Also, your HDD may be clipped down from a 10GB. Download IBM's feature tool and see if you can increase the HDD size. Backup your data first.

Thanks Jschuk, I'll give your suggestions a shot.

It would be great to get this hdd to 10gb, But i'll be more happy if I can jsut get it running.

Thanks,
Pigseye
