laptop hd upgrade

I thought this would be easy:

I have norton ghost 2005.
I have a new SATA lappy HD.
I want to put an exact copy of my old HD onto my new HD, via my external drive.

Norton can upgrade or backup an existing drive no problem, but then I need norton installed on the new drive in order to pull the copy in.

OR I need to out and buy a SATA USB adapter, and plug my new drive in and move everything over via Norton that way.

I'd like to do this easily without spending $$$$, but maybe I should just pry open my wallet.

Acronis also makes good cloning software. There is a free version that will do cloning I believe. It's pretty simple but a little time consuming. Otherwise you could always jsut use the Vista recovery feature and put it all on DVD's.

With some versions of Ghost, you can boot to the CD, and that will allow you to "restore" the image to the new drive.

Would have made it a little easier if your other post had been this clear.

AFAIK you're gonna hafta buy a powered SATA - USB adaptor. A plain adaptor will not power your drive. You'd probably be better off in the long run, buying an external case.
