Laptop HD to IDE

Hi,

I have a working laptop HD that I want to connect to a PC through IDE. I have bought a 2.5" laptop HD to 3.5" IDE coverter cable off newegg. Problem is the PC is not detecting the HD. Any ideas? thanks!

Are you sure the drive is working? Most times when I connect a laptop drive to my bench and it doesn't show up in either I claim it as being completely toast. You may want to try reseating the cables on both ends though and also try switching the IDE port that it is connected to.

It works fine in the laptop it came out of. Will try reseating the cable and switching IDE ports.

John, I was going to mention that 😛. I usually connect the 2.5" hard drives via that adapter and then connect it to a regular 3.5" external enclosure 🙂

That works for me too - and this adapter puts it in a mobile rack that is IDE connected.

The key to being seen might be the power connection.
