Laptop HD stopped working

I have an older HP omnibook (650mhz) worked fine.. till one day i boot it up.. can't find the HD... looked in the bios and primary ide say none. i tried to change it , nothing.. i put it on auto ... nothing..

Can it be the HD connection is loose ???

Any suggestions.. ? i have never opened a laptop before.
 
could be a loose hard drive, I've seen a few on Dell Latitudes where the hard drive has moved in transit. Simply pushing it back in and it boots fine - I guess the Omnibook could have a similar issue. It shouldn't be a case of opening the whole laptop as the hard drives are usually designed to be easily interchangeable.
