Laptop has lines across screen

My computer has been doing this for some time now... probably a couple of weeks. More than 75% of the screen is covered with darkness or random colors. I have always been fixing it by moving the screen back and forth without closing it and it often fixed it. Lately it has gotten worse and it required lots of restarts for it to fix. Today, my computer seems to have given up completely.

I do not have a screenshot of my computer nor a video, but I have found a similar (and almost exact) problem on youtube:

Can I please get some possible solutions from the famous anandtech community before I end up visiting a computer repairman to have a look at it? Hopefully it is fixable by opening it and dusting a couple dust bunnies or tightening up a few wires?

Thanks guys.

So... for a computer newbie like me, is that easy to fix by simply opening it up?

Nope. It could be as simple as replacing a ribbon cable or a connector, but in a laptop, the packaging and interconnection system is a major piece of engineering. Opening up your laptop is not something you want to try unless you have the tech skills, tools and documentation. That's why we have repair techs.

Not for the novice at all. Many tiny screws and usually a few differnt sizes that you have to keep seperate. Plastic snap on pieces you have to pry out very carefully.
