Laptop Hardrive to Desktop?

hey guys, i have a compaq presario 1700 laptop. the mother board is fried and i have stuff on the hardrive i really need. the hardrive is a toshiba mk2016GAP

is there anyway of getting the stuff off the hardrive? (ie cords? sticking it in a external hardrive somehow?)

Yes, there are converters available. This eBay link has many to give you a starting point.

Yeah, they make little adapters for that. I have two of them in my toolbox. I got them online (don't remember where) for like $10 a piece I think.

My laptop (running Win2k Pro) died today (spilled milk all over the keyboard). The harddrive appears fine, if I mount it to my desktop via the conversion cable, will I be able to access the files in the desktop folder of my old laptop?

You should be able to, assuming that the milk didn't hit the hard drive and its insides. Just be sure to get the pin 1's hooked together on those things. The mini-IDE connector that the laptop drives use also carries the power. I don't think that connecting it backwards would do good things to it.
