I have a Sony VAIO PCG-9411 and the harddrive seems to have completely broken. the bios wont even detect it anymore.

it is no longer under waranty, so i was going to replace the drive myself. I work on desktops all the time, but never laptops. do laptops use IDE? if so, is it called a 'laptop ide drive' that i need to order? do i just go to town taking out the screws or is there a better way to get inside?

thanks alot
david

you need to order a 2.5in IDE hdd.
don't know for sure but you'll probably need a 9.5mm height hdd vs a 12mm one.
fastest laptop hdd at present is the ibm 40GNX series which comes in 20 or 40Gb flavours & is a 9.5mm drive.
