Laptop harddrive help

I bought a Dell c610 without a harddrive

I bought my own hdd, and when I stuck it in it wouldnt recognize the drive, then found out that I was missing the hdd adapter for the hdd.

The guy sent me the adapter, I put it on, and put the hdd in the laptop and it still acts as if there is no primary disk found.

Any suggestions?

Firstly, where did you get the laptop from?
ebay? is it sold as seconds from a shop?

secondly, where did you get the hdd from?
new? guaranteed?

Do you know if it is compatible with your laptop?

I know Dell are a bit fluffy about peripherals/components, and they prefer using proprietary hw

believe it or not, on my inspiron 1100 the DVD ROM drive is the primary master and the HDD is the secondary master. Does the BIOS see any drives?
