Laptop Hard Drive Recommendations?

I'm about to buy a Dell 600m laptop which comes standard with a 4200rpm 40gb hard drive. They want $99 to upgrade it to an 80gb 4200rpm drive. I'd rather take that $99 and use it towards a bigger and faster hard drive, but which brand should I get? Should I get 5400rpm or is the 7200rpm really worth the extra money? Thanks for any and all replies!

That's odd when I bought my 600m they had an offer to upgrade it to a 5400 rpm from their site. Keep in mind buyng a faster speed hdd might change the heat and energy drain on your laptop.

I'm buying it through the employee purchase program so they may have limited options a bit. From what I've heard, higher RPM hard drives in laptops don't generate much additional heat, and actually use less power because although they spin a little faster, they can do their job quicker so the amount of time they're running at full capacity is shorter than a 4200rpm drive.
