Laptop hard drive problems

It seemed like I've been having hard drive problems with my laptop for some time, but I didn't know for sure until I wasn't able to boot today.

My laptop runs Ubuntu 10.04, and when trying to boot, GRUB says the partition doesn't exist. If I make it past the initial grub boot, Ubuntu's boot process will report something similar, about there not being a partition.

I decided to plug the drive into my Desktop and get some SMART info:

SMART Short Self Test said "error with read element failed", as did the extended test and conveyance test.

I tried using TestDisk, but the program crashes (and stalls the entire system) when trying to select the drive.

Is my hard drive busted? What should I do?

UPDATE: Running Western Digital Lifeguard diagnostics,

On quick test, got error "Status code= 07 (Failed read test element), Failure Checkpoint = 97", couldn't complete the test. The computer bugs out when trying to do the extended test also...

UPDATE 2: I tried to back up my ext3 partition using Acronis. It fails to read any data from the partition...is there any way I can get data off of the drive?
