Laptop GPU question

So on newegg, the laptop GPU is described as:

Graphics

GPU/VPU
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 + Intel HD

Video Memory
1024MB DDR3 with up to 2714MB total graphics memory

Graphic Type
Switchable graphics

Is that 1 GB DDR3 taken out of the 4 GB DDR3 listed for the laptops memory? I assume it's relatively easy for a newbie to figure out how to switch the graphics back and forth.

intel hd should auto-switch. the macbooks with intel HD and nvidia don't require a driver restart like the old mcp79 ion dualie setup.

It sounds like it has 1gb dedicated ram with up to 1.7gb of shared ram on demand
