Ok, so i've been having this freezing problem with my IBM t30 laptop...it only happens within windows XP, and it just completely freezes. The laptop needs to sit for 20 minutes before it will boot again. when i wait and it boots, it usually tells me that i need to put in the time/date settings because bios settings were lost...

However,If i go into IBM disgnostic on pre-boot, it won't freeze, so i'm assuming that its a XP problem?

Lastly, if i DEFRAGMENT my computer, it will prevent the freezing. What gives???

It could be that its overheating. Do you have a can of compressed air? You'd be surprised by how much dust can build up and cake on the heatsink and fan area.

Either that or you have a motherboard problem.

Could be an HD issue as well. What do you mean if you defragment it prevents the freezing? How soon does it freeze when you boot windows? Is it constant? How do you know defragmenting stops it from freezing? Do you boot into windows and start to defragment right away?

when i defragment the drive, it won't freeze for a WHILE. If i don't defragment, it will guarantee to freeze within 20 minutes...
