Laptop for Traveling and Gaming/Streaming

Hey guys,

I'm going to be traveling a lot starting later this year and need a sturdy but powerful laptop that could survive a drop or two (don't plan on it, but the vagabond lifestyle means anything can happen).

Storage: a boot SSD and a 1TB harddrive.

Memory: 16gb

Screen: 17"should be good, but I don't have much experience with laptops, so if you recommend more/less, I'm good.

Video: can handle Witcher 3 at 60fps Ultra, Street Fighter V Ultra 60fps+, Paragon 60fps (when it comes out), and stream the latter two games.

CPU: above specifications; my other uses for it will require less performance than the afforementioned uses, so it'll cover those.

Keyboard: irrelevant, I'll be plugging in my mechanical keyboard (and using my gaming mouse)

Look: don't really care too much about aesthetics, more interested in durability

Budget: don't want to spend more than $2,000

I've built Desktops before, but not sure if you can build laptops without soldering/intricate electronics knowledge; if you can, and it saves money, I'll try it.

Thanks guys,

Nietzsche-San

At 1080p 980m does High settings 60 fps average, but ultra is ~32 fps

To hit 60 fps you'd need sli 970m/980m. A desktop 980 might be close enough (44 fps).

You're unlikely to find a laptop with those specs under 2k that is ruggedized for drops.
Business grade laptops (toughbook/thinkpad/latitude/precision/elitebook/zbook) with high-end components are pricey.

Looks like I'm better off just getting a cheap laptop for my traveling and writing and just building a gaming desktop for when I'm not on the move, huh? I'll probably save some money in the process...if I break the laptop, big whoop, shit happens and everything is saved on like 3 difference sources.

thank you for the help and the reality check😉

i now travel with all in one computer (nuc, mac mini/zotac/brix etc) and a cheap thin 18 inch led monitor. it depend how often u need to set up and a bit more to carry (kb, cable) so not for everyone but i never go back to laptop.
