So I'm trying to help my sister who is totally blind buy a new laptop for college, we've just started to look around and if anyone could help us out it would be great!
What we are looking for is a laptop that is under 1,000 US Dollars, has at least 60GB of HDD and at least 512MB of RAM as some of her special software sucks RAM like an open drainpipe. Processor wise it doesnt matter as long as it's NOT a PO$ Celeron. We've looked up laptops at Dell and Newegg and any further suggestions or links would be wonderful!

Thanks guys

EDIT: BUMP and by the way windows XP Professional only....no home edition

Also need to know screen size, which directly dictates how mobile she is going to be with it.

In general, I would look at HP, Toshiba, and Averatec. Toshiba has dirt cheap models in retail stores, sometimes after mail-in rebates. HP has good quality machines for the money and also offers academic discounts. Averatec's are cheap machines that offer reasonable quality for the money, with a lot of models available under $1000.

With all of them, be sure to add your own memory. 512MB DDR SODIMM can be found for ~$50 these days, so add your own!

Buy a Dell with those 750 off coupons and have an extended warranty, that seems like the best option...
