laptop for digital painting

Is 1280x800 resolution enough? What other specs would you look for? I'm not looking for anything bigger than 15". Availability of an extra monitor is questionable.

I would recommend at least 1440*900 on a 15" screen. I have 1280*800 on my 13" screen and that is just fine for me, but anytime I see a notebook with that res on 15", I just feel like the size is off.

Go for a 15.4" Laptop with a WSXGA screen (1650 x 1080). Dell/HP/Asus have alot of models with that screen resolution.

Assuming your just doing 2-D modeling and not and 3D apps, any low level GPU will suffice. Since your using Photoshop go for the fastest dual core processor you can afford, and at least 2GB of memory.

It all depends on you. I personally don't think that I would want anything higher than 1680*1050 on a 15" screen, unless the OS was Resolution independent in which case res doesn't matter. But since very few OSes are res independent (I think leopard will be, but I can't think of any others off hand) that is an issue.

Well, I don't know if there is anything higher than 16x10 on a 15" screen. It just seems to me that 16x10 may be too high of a resolution.

Go to a store and check out the laptops with such resolutions yourself and see what pleases you. We're just hear-say.

Personally speaking I love my Dell with WSXGA+. For Photoshop & Programming having the extra screen real-estate is a huge plus.

Also, as far as I know 16:10 is the highest res offered on 15.4" laptops.

Do you mean 1680*1050? I know that I have seen some 15" machines with 1920*1200, but they are generally harder to find. I know that a few years ago, Dell offered that as an upgrade for Inspirons, but I don't think they do anymore.
