First note: Please learn how to type properly, it just makes you look stupid (not to be insulting or anything like that).

Are you interested in carrying this laptop around or is it going to be more of a stationary object (meaning, is weight a conern)?
I don't know if you'll find many (or any) notebooks below $1000 with good graphics. Your best bet with that price range would be to look at the Dell Outlet store for XPS M170s, M1710s, Inspiron 9400/E1705s. Otherwise, if you want decent graphics in a notebook, you'll have to put your price range higher.

For $1500, you can get the Asus A8Jm, which has a 14" WXGA display, Nvidia 7600 Go, 1GB DDR2, 100GB HDD, Core Duo @ 1.83GHz, so that may be a good choice if you want decent graphics in a small package.

Another notebook, more in your price range: $1070 - The Acer Aspire AS5672WLMi, it has an X1600 MR, 1GB DDR2, 15.4 WXGA Display, 120GB HDD, Core Duo @ 1.66GHz. Some may argue that the WXGA display on a 15.4" is a little big on a 15.4" and it should be a WSXGA display instead, but resolution is up to you. On that note, you should visit a B&M store if you are worried about screen resolutions and want to see what screens are like before slapping down $1000+ on a new laptop.

In his case, that would probably be a bad fit - as much as I love to recommend it to people. It starts at $1049 for college students, and unless "casual gamer" means older 3D games and 2D titles, the GMA950 graphics won't cut it.

true, i must have missed that in the OP.

i would recommend the Macbook to any college student who does not do a lot of gaming though.

I suggest you go back to high school and start over.
