laptop for audio production

does anyone here have any recommendations? I was considering getting a Vaio grx600 but those are too rich for my blood. I guess I'm looking for something with similar specs to the GRX600 series with little to no noise. I was using my friend's 12" g4 Powerbook and it was silent. TIA

If you're talking about laptop noise, I don't really see how this is a problem since you'll be using good loud and flat monitors or good quality headphones... and either way it won't make a difference. If you're talking about power supply noise seeping into the audio recording this is easily remedied with a USB or Firewire soundcard, which you should have anyway if you're producing.

I'd be interested in this as well..either for mic input or possibly for line input into the computer, to do mixing in SoundForge.

I couldn't really find much on the RME site; would any of this stuff work with a Thinkpad R32? Are they all external devices, or are there PCMCIA cards?

RME offers a PCMCIA buscard for the multiface for ~$300 while the multiface itself goes for something like $700. Unfortunately, I can't login to the newsgroup since my only access to a computer is at a library. I'm in the market for something like the GRX600 for around $1200 but that's only offered in ebay, which I've learned twice the hard way isn't that reliable of a forum for purchasing highly priced goods. As to the audio interface device I'm getting, I was considering getting a USB powered m-audio Ozone, which fits my budget for now. I'll probably upgrade to a presonus firestation of rme multiface once money permits me to do so. But in the meantime, I could use some help for getting a GRX600 quality laptop for around that price from a reputable source. I'm still considering ebay, but I'm still not up to speed with what I should look for in reliable sellers for highly priced goods. Thanks.
