So I've been reading up on here about laptops, but I still can't figure out what to get. I was looking at a dell before reading about the shipping problems. I am looking for something I can use for college, but also play games (mostly wc3). If possible I want to spend under $1300 including like a 2 yr warrenty.

Thanks ahead of time.

Do you have much of an idea as to what size screen you would want? that would dictate a fair amount of things. Personally I like my 13" screen since it isn't so small that it cramps the keyboard, but isnt too big to take to class.

Don't bother mentioning if you want wireless in your laptop, you actually have to work these days to get a notebook without wireless :)

I would probably recommend HP, they seem to be doing really well lately, look pretty decent (second only to Apple but that is only because I like a minimalistic look) and are affordable. Head on down to BB or CC and check out their selections. Get a feel for the keyboards, the trackpads, make sure you can see the screen, open up some programs and make sure that you can switch between them quickly. Also, try to figure out how much space you are going to want. Think you want 60GB? Get a machine with an 80GB drive. Always go 1 size higher with storage space.

I'm thinking about a 14 or 15.1 in monitor. Is it better to customize a HP on their site or just try to find a decent price one in store?

maybe customize online to get an idea of how much you will be expected to spend for what you want, but in terms of getting it immediately, I would go into the store. And I still think you should go into the store to get a feel for the laptops they have there, see if there are any that you absolutely love.
