Laptop for 3D Studio

My cousin wants to get a Laptop for use with his classwork. The application he would be using a lot would be:

3D Studio
Photoshop
AutoCad
Dreamweaver

I quized him on his requirements. He thought rendering performance would be the most important attribute. Weight and size doesn't matter so much because he's willing to carry it. Battery life isn't horribly important either because he plans to take it to various spots on campus where he can plug in the laptop. There will be situations where he'll run on battery, but those situations are rare. The laptop will need to have WiFi access (which most laptop these days have any way). He's not sure what sort of connector he wanted. But I figure he should get a laptop with fireware or at least a USB2. If possible, he would like it to be roughly $2000.

I never use any of the above application except for Dreamweaver. Most of the above apps appears to be memory hogs. I am guessing as much memory as possible. Say 2 Gb at least or 4 Gb if possible. He'll need lots of disk space, but I am not sure how much. In addition, what's sort of CPU would you folks recommend? What about graphics cards, do the graphics cards make a difference in rendering (there's probably a difference between game rending on the fly vs. 3D studio rendering).

Thanks.

Paul
