Laptop Fan Never Stops

Yesterday, I realized that my laptop (Acer Aspire 3003) fan never stops in Windows anymore. It used to work fine and turned on only once in a while when the laptop got too hot but now it is just on all the time at the same speed. When I boot into Ubuntu it works just fine again.

Did I accidentaly change some setting or did Windows XP Pro somehow get messed up (I recently had a problem with XP where it froze very often and when wireless did not work but I did a system restore and a lot of other different things to fix it)? What can I change it Windows so that it works ok again? Thanks in advance.

I friend of mine has a similar problem on his Gateway- but only when he has his USB flash drive plugged in. It's strange. Please update if you figure it out!
