Laptop DVD RW- less reliable?

Would a optical drive with DVD RW capability, be more apt to failure, than a drive that is just a DVD CD-RW. If it goes into a laptop - it would be harder to fix any problems, and I am OK with bying an external DVD RW for the few times I would use it.

I don't think so, except for heat. Researching how much power I need for my desktop I found quite some references that DVD writers step another 5 watts (to 20 or 25).

If you want to optimize the lifespan of your notebook, the optical drive, and the rest, I think the external one would be a little safer.
