Laptop DVD Drive

So when I go to watch a movie in my Slimtype combo DVD/CDRW drive, it plays fine for about 30 minutes, then begins to skip. It will play for a few minutes, then get hung on a scene like a broken record, while doing this, the Drive is spinning quite loudly. This has happened with every DVD I have used. I dont know if its being cause by the heat built up or what. ANy ideas?
 
update, so I guess it is only skipping with my Burned DVDs.... does this make sense? Are the DVDs I have cheap or something?
 
What kind of laptop is it, and what kind of dvd/cdrw combo drive is it...

I've got an IBM Thinkpad with a toshiba dvd drive and sometimes the thing is incredibly picky about burnt media. It'll read and rip regular media just great, but burnt media it sometimes has a hard time with...
