I'm thinking about getting a new hd for my laptop. Currently it has a 4200 ibm drive in it, but I'm also looking at 5400 rpm 2.5" drives as well. I've been trying to find some reviews and so far haven't really found any good ones. Anyone have any experience or good reviews of going from a 4200rpm drive to a 5400 drive? I'm also curious to see what kind of impact it will have on battey life.
Thanks all!

I've never used a 5400RPM laptop drive but I do use a firewire HD with mine. I put a Seagate Barracuda IV 80GB in a firewire enclosure. According to Sandra it performs about 25% faster than my IBM Travelstar 40GB 4200RPM.

I have used both on a vaio sr1k, the 5400rpm helps reduces programme loading time by a couple of seconds, but to keep power consumption low I used the ibm powersave tool which parks the arm and spins down the drive when not needed.
