Laptop display - XP auto adjustment

Hi, I am an older laptop running a Pentium III 700mhz processor. I installed Windows XP pro on the laptop. After installation the OS would automatically adjust the display settings to optimize the lcd display. By allowing the OS to adjust the settings, gave me a very crisp and clear screen. Well, I reinstalled the OS after upgrading the hard drive. Now the OS doesn't auto adjust the display settings and now I get fuzzy text. I've tried adjust the screen size but that doesn't seem to fix the fuzzy text. Does anyone know how I can get the OS to automatically adjust the display settings again?

Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Got to Display, Settings, Appearance - then Effects and make sure the Clear Text box is checked. That is especially for LCDs.

Thanks corky-g and johnjkr1, the tips finally fixed the fuzzy text problem. I can finally see the words again. I guess I'm not going blind after all. Once again, thanks for the tips.
