My friends laptop display will not come on. The laptop will power up, but the display will not come on. And if you connect it to another monitor, it still will not come on. Took it to the geek squad at best buy and they couldn't fix it, offered to send it out to get fix for like 170 bucks.

Laptop specs is:
It is a Sony VAIO Laptop: Model SVE15D11L
OS: Windows 7 HOME
Processor: i5

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Also is there a way to pull data from the hardrive(Music, Videos, etc)?

Appreciate any help, thank you.

Ok, the bolded bit, you mean:
External monitor/TV connected to video out of the laptop
Nothing is displayed on either screen?

Yes, but the answer depends on what is wrong.

Sure. Get an external USB-SATA adapter for 2.5" drives. Turn off the laptop. Open the laptop. Extract the drive. Put it in the adapter. Plug the adapter into another computer. Hope that bitlocker wasn't turned on.

Are you sure you don't mean the laptop's display? The term "monitor" implies a peripheral device.
