Hey I am ordering a laptop today and want to make sure I get a good display.

Can anyone help me understand the difference of TFT, active matix, UXGA, SXGA.

I dont want to get a sweet laptop with a crappy display.

I am looking at a Toshiba Stae pro 4600. Any suggestions on that too?

As always thank you for any help.

ok here is a bit of a guide,
TFT, Thin Film Transistor, looks better has brighter colors and costs more
HPA, High Performance Adressing, doesnt look as good as TFT but is less expensive
XGA and SXGA apx = svga on a normal computer has a native resolution of 1024x768
SXGA+, similar to XGA/SXGA but has more pixels, native resolution of 1400x1050
UXGA, the highest type of laptop screen available on the consumer market, native resolution of 1600x1200

i have a dell inspiron laptop with a 14.1 inch SXGA+ screen and it runs beatutifuly at any resolution i throw at it🙂
im currently running it at 1024x768 to reduce the strain on my eyes

btw, if im wrong on this dont be afraid to correct me!
Hope this helps
