Sorry if this is common, but I googled it and couldn't seem to find anything. Basically, when I plug the TV into the HDMI port on my laptop, the laptop screen gets dark suddenly, as if I had unplugged the power supply and the power management had kicked in (this is not what is happening, btw, as I set the display to 100% brightness for both power and battery).

After I unplug the TV from the laptop, the laptop display just stays dark and won't get bright again until I reboot.

Anybody have any idea what's going on? I have a netflix subscription and wanted to play silverlight movies through the laptop and onto the screen so this is really frustrating.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I tried this at your suggestion, but for some reason the Nvidea drivers wouldn't work. I downloaded the 32 bit drivers and when I tried to run them I got a message telling me that I was trying to use the wrong set. WTF I thought, I was pretty sure that I was running 32 bit windows, though I didn't really know how to check for sure. But I downloaded the 64 bit drivers anyway and they didn't work at all.

So I saved up my files and did a system recovery, and that seems to have solved the issue as the system no longer gets dark when I plug the TV into the HDMI port.

I'll have to try the drivers again to see if they work.

Thanks for your help.
