Laptop discounts (education, etc..)

Basically I'm curious of the discounts either college students got and/or first time buyers got from IBM or HP. I've tried calling to IBM but never got through to the right person who could give me more information on the educational discount. I do not know anyone who works for IBM so the "friends and family" deal is not applicable. Any suggestions...

Most schools have some sort of purchase plan setup with one or more major computer manufacturers... For instance, at UMass, we have a computer store on campus with discounts with IBM, Dell and Apple. Perhaps check your school's website?

u don't need to know a friend or family at ibm. look under the hot deals on anandtech and search for "ibm stockholder discount" i don;t know if the code is current...but that page had the very sam ecode that was sent to my brother-in-law who is a stockholder. turns out, when my lappy was ordered, they don't verify i fyou are a stockholder or not. just as long as you tell them and give them the code, it should work. oh yeah, also get linked to the stockholder webpage for ibm to see the special prices for stockholders.
