Laptop Dead -- No Screen and won't output to monitor

I have had a Toshiba Tecra M3 Laptop for years running off an external monitor (my gf sat on my screen years ago and cracked it dead). A while ago the thing crashed and since then I'm not sure if its working properly / if its toast. I can't diagnose anything because it stopped outputting to an external.

What i'm asking for is advice on how to configure output to the external monitor while currently being able to see nothing.

I'm not even sure if the computer is booting, dead, not outputting to monitor, booting with a disk check, etc...

any suggetsions?

Also,

If i let the computer run for a while

1) fan speed increases exponentially till a frightening buzz

2) power LED switches from green (normal for on), to flashing Orange (dont know what this indicates)


somone has got to have some advice!
