laptop ddr ram: I have the small chips on the ram (1cm rectangle) can I mix that type of ram with the larger chip?

size of ram chips on a memory module not an issue ..size of pcb module (aka the stick of ram) could be...

I have all the room in the world in this lappy, so if the stick is taller it is not an issue for me...is that what your talking about?

all the other specs match for me...ddr and 2.5CL.

I'm guessing that there are more chips on the one because the chips are individually smaller. Some older systems (mostly laptops) can't handle larger chip sizes.So, for example, each chip on the stick of ram might be 32 mb on the small-chip variety and 64 mb on the large-chip variety, so the stick with the larger chips only need half as many chips.

define older system

This lappy is about 3 years old...

I actually don't know how old or what models can't handle the larger chip sizes. We need someone more knowledgeable in here...?
