Looking for a new laptops but iam lost on laptops cpu's, Looking at a hp model that comes with a AMD Turion X2 QL-60 cpu its 1.9 gighertz, Whats is that equal to against a laptop cpu from Intel?? Is that as good as a duo core or core 2 duo cpu and at what gig hertz speed? Just trying to get an idea were the QL-60 AMD cpu falls in speed against the Intel laptop cpu's. Not a gamer just for general apps and some Photoshop use.

Trying to compare laptops is hard when you dont no how the cpu's compare. Everything else is easy to compare except the cpu's I do realize Intels cpu's gighertz to gigherts are generaly faster but how much faster?

For general use, I wouldn't worry too much. A 1.9ghz turion x2 is decent enough for general computing. I'm not exactly sure which intel chip would be equivalent but I'd say for this market segment a 200-300mhz difference (AMD chip need 200-300mhz more to match the intel chip).

So that 1.9ghz amd would be like a 1.6ghz intel, basically. There are lots of variables (chipset, HD speed, memory).

but again, for general use, it will be fine. I rock the house on powerful desktops and have no problem using my Celeron M 440 single core laptop with 2GB and Vista for day to day tasks. Sure, it would suck if I tried to encode but it's more than enough for word, office, browsing, mp3/itunes junk, irc, gadgets, pidgin, AVG, torrents and streaming NPR through WMP with no major hiccups. :)

Thanks. I use for home a Q6600 now. I also would use Photoshop CS3 on the laptop. Not allot just when iam away on a trip. Iam looking at the HP dv5z with the optional higher rez screen the

15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Infinity Display (1680 x 1050)

which iam hopeing would be better than the base screen which is a 1280 by 800 which is what i only could find when looking locally.
