Laptop CPU = What/when is the next generation?

I'm about to spend ~$3800 on a Panasonic Toughbook (Ruggedized laptop) with a 1.6GHz Centrino CPU (1MB cache, or course). My question to all of you hardware experts out there: What/when is the next generation of laptop CPU coming? I don't want to dump $3800 (I realize I *could* get a full cheap centrino for ~$1100) if a newer and faster laptop CPU is coming out within 6 months -- however, it it's more than 6 months down the road, I think i'm going to dump my money into the quality product.

Any feedback would be appreciated..

Thanks,
Merlin

The Dothan will be released in Feb. Is there a reason why you need a ruggedized laptop? If not you can get a better performing laptop for less $$.

I'm in the wireless networking field -- I am constantly walking around with my laptop, setting it risky surfaces, etc.

And you would recommend... which laptop?

Anybody know the approximate price tag of a new Dothan?
