Hello,

I have this problem, when I turn on my laptop , CPU Fan (only fan in whole system) works fine , but after POST (maybe a little later, actually when LILO starts ) it just stops working ; ( ... and you know what this can do to the cpu ; ( ... I checked everything in the BIOS , didn't find a thing ... and it wasn't like this ... why is that ? : (

thanks,
bye.

Fan only comes on when needed. Mine is off when idling. If I do any real work the fan comes on quite quickly.

I already burned one cpu in there and I don't think that fan works (comes on) properly ... b/c recently I almost burned another cpu ... so is there any way to make it work whole time ?

the fan doesn't stay on all the time. it usually comes on when the battery is being charged with the computer on.
I suggest you try this if you want constant fan cooling for your laptop!

Eug has it right . . . I am on my third laptop (now 750 MHz) and as long as you have an Intel mobile CPU, the fan really comes on infrequently. There are some cheaper alternatives out there that use regular CPU chips and they run constantly. There's more bitching about the fan running than not running.

A lot depends on your ambient room temp also. Bottom line is, most laptop fans run only when needed. Need depends on sveral factors. To have them run all the time is a huge battery drain. Smart money sticks to only Intel mobile processors in laptops.
