Laptop CPU choice

same features and price but different cpu's, whats better for general use:

Intel® Core™ i3-380M Processor
(3M Cache, 2.53 GHz)

or

Intel® Pentium® Processor B960
(2M Cache, 2.20 GHz)

The specs are too close to call and the B series is newer it seems...

If you have to get one now, get the B960 that's based on Sandy Bridge. Battery life should be better. If you can wait until Ivy Bridge in <2months, I'd suggest waiting for that or looking for a deal on a SB i3 or i5 because retailers will want to clear those stock for IB.

i am not in a rush, but i know the new stuff will be much more expensive, right now i can get a 6 gig b960 with 500gb hdd hdmi for 429.99+13% tax canadian i consider a good laptop like this under $500 a good deal

You should be able to get better deals than that. Dell or Lenovo Canada have any good deals? especially outlet? I know Lenovo outlet has some new stuff and Dell outlet will have previously ordered new, which is supposedly a machine that was never turned on by the customer.

im not sure, aside from going to an actual store, i never bought laptops anywhere else, ill have to look into this further

B960, no doubt.

Dell.ca has a system for $499 with 6GB Ram, 750GB Hard Drive, 15.6" 1366x768 and a sandy bridge i3-2xxx (forget)... with HDMI.

you can finance it too if needed

I am looking at the Acer at best buy in the flyer this week,

15.6"
6 cell batt
500GB HDD
6 GB ram
Intel B960
HDMI

for $429.99 + tax, i am contemplating this or waiting a few months for something newer, but newer will be more expensive, is this a good buy?

BB as well. Is that a Z series? And is it just me or does it look very much like the $429 Acer in appearance and dimensions?

Anyway, that's a better deal if you don't mind refurb. Odd that all the low-end notebooks being sold on Canada e-tailers are either first gen i3 or SB pentium. Very few SB i3.

looks a little different,

the acer has the same specs except the cpu and the hdd is a little smaller, doesnt bother me really, is it really worth a $40 extra for the lenovo? dont forget the 13% tax we have here
