Laptop Cooling Fan Doesn't Work

Krozar

I have recently purchased a Toshiba Tecra 520CDT and the cooling fan doesn't work. This is also my first laptop so if anybody has any information about the inside of one before I go tearing into it, it would be useful.

Thanks in Advance.

If it is a new machine, I recommend getting warrantee support before you try to open up the case and void it.

Good luck.

Agreed, but bear in mind, that the fans do not work all the time, only when they are needed. Work with it for an hour and see if it doesn't turn on.

It's definatly not new, I bought it used. And I know it doesn't work because I noticed it was REALLY hot on the bottom and when I was feeling aournd on it, I noticed the fan wasn't moving. But who knows, I'll try running it for an hour and checking it again just to make sure.

Thanks for the feedback.

Krozar, my laptop gets quite warm before the fan turns on, and then, the fan only runs for a short period of time. Try running a distributed computing program on your computer [they will utalize all of the CPU's resources] for sometime to see if it makes the fan turn on.
