Laptop coolers

I'm thinking of buying one to compliment my gaming laptop, pretty sure it'll get hot under my laptop so i might as well buy a laptop cooler.

Which is the best out right now? I dont care much for extra usbs on the laptop, but yeah its a plus i guess.

targus makes both the "chill mat" and the "chill hub" the first uses a USB port to power it's two fans, the second does the same and adds a USB HUB

you can find just the chill mat for around $25, office depot, staples, etc.

I have a question about these coolers...

Most laptops have air intakes on the bottom and exhausts on the back or sides. Air goes up from below, over the CPU, GPU and whatever else, then is blow out the back.

These coolers suck air from under the laptop and blow it out the back...doesn't this interfere with airflow into the laptop case from below? The laptop fan is trying to suck air up, and competing with the cooler fans that are tryign to suck the same air down, no?

While I can only seem to access the HDD temp on my 7426gx, the temp seemed to have no direct correlation to the absence or presence of the chill matt I bought (which I later returned).

Any ideas?

Were you using MobileMeter to watch your temps? That usually displays CPU temp also

Yes, I did. The ACPI section was grayed out. It's odd...because the CPU has to have a temp sensor for the fan to come on and off when needed.

Any ideas how to turn it on?

deathwalker- The laptop cooler looks great. I should really get one. It even has an extremely positive review from someone with a laptop (Dell Inspiron 5100/5150) just like mine, using it for the same purpose (F@H/other DC).

your entire laptop actually works as a heatsink, most of these cooler take advantage of that, and move air into their fans by pulling it in from all sides of the notebook over nearly all the bottom surfaces, and exausting it out the back, yes, it might fight with the fan a bit, but i think the overall cooling effect will be better.

Good notebooks avoid having fan intakes at the bottom. they are very bad news for people using them on tablecloths, on their lap, in bed etc.
