Laptop connected to wireless network...

i searched DHCP and only found one relevant hit, but it didn't help...

guess I am a newbie at this networking thing (although I have 3 pc's (hardwired) and two laptops connected via wireless to my router and all are connected fine)...

I am 'cleaning up' a laptop for a friend of mine...after running adaware and MS spyware to remove all the garbage from her machine, I also removed Kazaa, audio galaxy, msn explorer and net zero...

whether I use an RJ45 cable to connect to the router or a wireless card, it doesn't get a DHCP assigned IP...it get the automatic private address 169.xxx IP...

i tried IPCONFIG /RENEW or /RELEASE and neither did the trick to fix this issue...the TCP/IP settings are all set to automatic.

did the netzero or msn explorer connections affect this? is there anything else I can try?

TIA for any help on this...

If I can't get it work, I will just reformat the drive and start from scratch (which is what I told her we should have done in the first place)...I am sure this will fix the problem...🙂

I can manually configure the IP and I can now ping other PC's on the network, but it doesn't connect the internet...not sure if that helps or not...
