256 ram, dsl, Brand new can't play Counter-Ctrike for more then 15 minutes.

Do I need more ram what can I do???

What OS are you running? I think your computer might have the ATi Rage Mobility, no? 8MB isn't really going to cut it in Counter-strike. In fact, I don't think it runs well at all on any system, regardless of processor and RAM. Try running in software mode.

Also some specs would be helpful, I can't seem to find any on your sony. OH...one more thing.

Here's something for ATI Owners:

ATI fix for Half-Life 1.0.0.8

<< ATI fix for Half-Life 1.0.0.8

This patch contains the fix for the overflow issue that occurs on ATI video cards after updating to Half-Life 1.1.0.8. This file should ONLY be applied by owners of ATI video cards who are experiencing the overflow issue.

What Counter-Strike errors are you getting anyways?

Smacknut:
please list all the specs of your laptob
list exactly what happens after 15 minutes
and list any other relevant information

thnx! and then we can help

My laptop has integrated ethernet, but I also use an 802.11b card sometimes. If I try to play UT with the wireless card installed, it will lock up as soon as it gets to the UT interface.

Just an idea...

I have the fxa32 model. I've tried 2 games and it will not play them. Rogue Spear and Motocross Madness 2. I also bought an external USB burner 4x4x8. I can burn fine at 2x, but no matter what I do I cannot burn at 4x. I've tried on 2 desktops at home and 2 friends laptops and they all burn fine at 4x. I think the USB port is not sending the information fast enough because I'm getting buffer underuns. I just hope Sony comes out with some new drivers.

okay i got my fxa36. i played counterstrike and quake 3 for about an hour each with no problems. star trek armada and voyager elite force work fine as well. sorry...

try updating the ati rage mobility drivers at sony's site. i'm kind of disappointed with the speed of the video chip though, i didnt' know how fast it was when i bought it and i guess i am not going to be using this for gaming really.

also the battery life SUCKS! i only get about an hour and 20 minutes at best. but for $700 from a guy i knew it was a steal...

Yep, I'd say $700 is a steal. I bought a second battery which goes in the floppy bay on ebay for about $160. Sony gets $250 for it. I'm getting around 3 hours now.
