Laptop charger requires 19.5v 4.7 amps, will a 19v 4.744 amp be ok?

My neighbor forgot their charger at starbucks and it wasn't there when they returned. They were in a bind so I gave them my 19v 4.744 amp charger. It charges and it works fine. I think chargers fluctuate in volts a bit and having more amps is ok as the device pulls what it needs.

I just wanted to confirm that it won't do any long term issues by using a 19v vs a 19.5v. This is a quality OEM toshiba charger.

My rule is that if the connector fits it gets used. Nothing has exploded yet...

Voltage may be too low depending on the charger (inside laptop) circuitry, but given it's only .5v difference I think it will be fine. It might pull a bit more amps but probably not enough to make a difference.

It should be fine. PMICs usually have a decent source voltage range they can accommodate.

It will draw power from the battery anyway, battery will charge slower, actually it wont cause amps.
Its the amps that kills but in this case I think you are well within fault tolerances .. its good to go.

Might want to check polarity first...
Meh, if it is backwards it wont work.

I am the guy who has no respect for electricity and sees no problem with jamming some romex wire directly into a wall outlet and leaving it that way for 15 years, doesn't bother discharging capacitors before replacing them and believes twisting wires together and wrapping some electrical tape around them is a perfectly sound permanent splice.

It is probably a good thing I have electrical subcontractors to do that part of the job for me.

Not a problem unless you plan to operate under 100% load like running Prime95 or something. For everyday use it will be fine.

It can burn out stuff.

When I was a kid I discovered the fun unlimited power that came out of wall outlets, vs batteries that die and have to be charged.

Used to use crunched up foil paper as wires. It's a good thing I didn't have a cat then. lol
