Hi,

Is there any way on my Compaq Laptop - a 3120US purchased april 2004 - to find whether the DVD player plays only region 1 DVD's or also region 2? I'm thinking of buying some DVD's in England, but US is "region 1" and UK is "region 2" -- many recent DVD players can play both.

Thanks!

as long as you arent looking for many stand alone dvd players to play the region 2's (the players being region 1). even if the player can read multi-regions {a la native settings or region 0 hack} regions 2s are also PAL. if the dvd player can do PAL->NTSC conversion and can do multi regions you are ok, but its only going to be those specific players that can do conversion and region all.

there should be no problem playing the flicks on the laptop. even if there is a region issue, you can get a prog to give you region 0 or anydvd.

Also, you could do what I do and run vlc to watch your UK DVDs. I've been watching mine that way, and it even seems to play them fine on my NTSC tv via tv out.
