seems like plastic on the laptop would give pretty easy if someone tried to force the lock off...guess it is better than nothing but overall, seem pretty worthless...

has this thing actually worked for anyone here?

 
I have one but hardly get to use it. It's not plastic. The clip is metal and hooks into your laptop at a metal point which is beyond the plastic shell. You can't just pull it out forcibly.

exactly.. my notebook has 2 of the locking port on opposite side of the notebook.. i chain my lcd monitors also.. got 4. I got like 10 of these chains at home..
 
I'm thinking about getting one of those kensington locks or something similar for my powerbook for when i go back to college.
 
i was going to get one merely to deter the opportunist thief who seems your unattended laptop while you're in the bathroom.

obviously a motivated thief will bypass it, but it makes leaving your desk for a bit a little less worrisome.

exactly the point. They are just deterrents. Same goes for The Club.

Yeah, and bolt cutters are easy to hide, plus NO ONE will question you when your walking around with 'em.
