Hi friends,

I AM OPEN TO OTHER BRANDS/MODELS.

I hope everyone is doing well. I am currently using a IBM Thinkpad T43 Type 2669. I have the 15inch screen.

This machine has lived its life and I am now looking to get a replacement Think Pad. Some models I have come across are the Thinkpad T420 (14 inch) or Thinkpad T520 15.6 inch or the Thinkpad X1.

I will be using the laptop for medium use business productivity (Excel, Powerpoint, Word), email, internet surfing and some multimedia. I also use the laptop at home when on the bed or lazing around, so I would like something sturdy.

I do carry the laptop with me to and from work, and when travelling. I would like something a bit lighter than the current T43 that I have.

Any suggestions on which of these models I should go for?

I AM OPEN TO OTHER BRANDS/MODELS.

Thanks,
desidude

I am currently using the T420 and like it so far. It's a well built and sturdy laptop. The only complaint I have is that it doesn't have HDMI output (Display Port instead) and doesn't have USB 3.0.

Another laptop you should seriously consider is the new Sony S series (13.3" screen). It's much lighter than the T420 (3.6 lbs versus 4.84 lbs) and can be configured with up to the i7 Sandy Bridge CPU.

Check out the review of the X220.

Small, lightweight and fast as hell:

"...the longest lasting and fastest ultraportable we've ever tested ... requires no performance, durability, or endurance sacrifices, and that's not something we can say very often when it comes to the many ultraportables out there. Sure, there are flashier looking options out there ... but hey, good luck getting those to run for 15 hours on a single charge..."
