Guys, I need a new laptop this week no way around this. My computer is busted and I want the best deal I can get.
1) What is your budget? $500-$700
2) What size notebook would you prefer? 15-17'+
3) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in.
4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? Like any brand except Sony
5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook? Outlook, Lots of excel and word work (10-20 sheet open at once). Lots of web browsing (10-15 tabs open). Music, Movies watching, running lots of freeware apps
6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk? Take too and from work. Will take on trips or down shore in summer
7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games? No games except the occasional online flash game
8) How many hours of battery life do you need? Doesn't matter as long as it isn't 30 minutes.
9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person? That is fine.
10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc. Prefer XP bc haven't used Vista much and am most familiar with XP. Also know that XP is less of a resource hog
Screen Specifics
11) Would you prefer standard or widescreen? Widescreen
12) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
Any of these is fine
d. WXGA or WXGA+ - 1280x768/800 or 1440x900; Wider viewing version of XGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
f. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Wider viewing version of UXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
Does not matter
Build Quality and Design
14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? Don't care as long as it doesn't fall apart
15) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? Buying ASAP. Would like to last 2-4 years
Notebook Components
16) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 200GB? 120gb+
17) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD, Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive? DVD Burner is a must. HD is nice but not a must have
Now I have looked at different laptops including AMD 64X, Dual Core and Core 2 Duo. I know the Core 2 duo is faster but what advantages does it have and when would you really see the advantages?
I also don't care if the rest of the system is kickass and I have to upgrade from 1gb to 2gb to save $
I've looked at so many models and am still lost. Some models were.
Today I saw the T2080 Gateway at Best Buy for $599

I would even take a kick ass computer with 1GB of ram for cheaper and upgrade it
