hi. i'm new here. i was wondering if the following problem is hardware or software and if there are known solutions to it.

when i close my compaq 2800 presario laptop, the computer goes into sleep mode, or whatever it is that the laptop does to conserve energy (the screen turns black, more or less. it's in fact just really really dimmed). long time ago when i opened the laptop, the screen would flash back up to normal, but after i formatted my harddrive, the screen just stays black. any help would be appreciated. thanks!

im assuming your using a windows operating system so ill suggest going into the control panel and checking the power options settings to see what the settings are regarding what do to when you close the lid of the laptop. try messing around with the settings in there and ill bet it fixes your issue.
