I have a Compaq Presario 1275 that has a new battery that is less than a year old. It has not been used a lot, and discharged about every month or so. Yesterday; however, as I was working with the laptop, I realized that it was working with the battery power supply instead of the power supply from the wall. When I took the battery out the computer reset itself, and started up since it was plugged in. But when the battery was in the laptop, it used it as the main power source and did not use the wall outlet. I searched through the BIOS but could not find much. Also the battery has not recharged since the last time the laptop used it up. Anyone have any advice?

Windows Power settings - try taking a look at them

*sorry I thought the problem was something else initially!*

Return the battery and get a new one while you can. It has probably gone bad.
I have begun to suspect these batteries are a little 'Lexmarkesque' based on the way they go bad.
One day working fine with full 5 hour charges, next day not working _at all_. This has happened to me about
3 times with Dell batteries, and I believe it has happened to my mother with her battery as well, though her computer is
hard on her battery...

Remove the battery and press the button on its side. If there is a problem then not all the LEDs may flash or a single LED may glow red. If anything like that occurs returned the battery if it is less than one year old.
