Laptop Battery Replacement

I have a Dell XPS15, (L501X). It's only about 15 months old. The battery up and died yesterday. Doesn't seem like a very long life. :\
Dell wants $180 for a replacement. I see some generic brands selling for about $100.
Anyone have any experience with generic replacments? Good? Bad?

Not sure if they make one for yours, but I've had good luck with Anker batteries in my old Dell and my wife's current Dell laptop

go through the different dell stores (Dell home, dell small business etc, even dell premiere/student if yo uhave access)... each prices things differently...

I once had to find a battery, cost $150 on the main site. through the premier rep = $50

Checked with Anker. Too bad they don't have one for my model laptop, because their prices are unbeatable.

I bought a $60 12-cell battery off of ebay for my wife's old Compaq laptop about 1 1/2 years ago. It functioned just like the original battery did brand new and is still going strong.

If you want me to post the brand and/or seller, just ask. I'll have to look it up when I get home since ebay is blocked at work.

I've been disappointed in Dell battery quality lately. They used to use high quality made in Japan batteries that would last 4-5+ years. Now they are low qaulity made in China that are lucky to last 2 years, even on their high end laptops like the XPS 15. And then they still want to charge premium prices for replacement that probably will not last long either. $180 - really Dell?

I agree completely. I have two XPS15 laptops. One purchased in December, 2010, and the other in August, 2011. After only 15 months I don't believe I should be dealing with a dead battery. Dell argues otherwise, telling me today the life expectancy for a laptop battery is only 1 year. BS!
The dead battery was made in China, the other was made in Korea. And, yeah, $180 for a replacement is damn ballsy, but I'm not buying.
I'll find a quality and more reasonably priced replacement, I'm sure.
